01Do you even need a ring sticker?
To install a MagSafe ring sticker, center it over your phone's charging coil, press it on a clean surface and let the adhesive set. Before you peel anything, check that your phone actually needs one, because plenty don't.
| Your phone | Built-in magnets? | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| iPhone 12 and later (not iPhone 16e) | Yes | Skip the sticker. Use a MagSafe-compatible case if you want a case |
| Pixel 10, 10 Pro, 10 Pro XL, 10 Pro Fold | Yes (Qi2) | Skip it. Use a magnetic case |
| Galaxy S25 and S26 series | No (Qi2 Ready) | A magnetic case is cleaner; a ring sticker works too |
| Pixel 10a, older Pixels, most other Android | No | Ring sticker on a case, or a magnetic case if one exists |
| iPhone 11 and older | No | Ring sticker on the case |
Not sure about your model? Does Samsung have MagSafe? and does the Pixel 10 have MagSafe? go through each line-up.
Apple left MagSafe off the iPhone 16e. If you have a recent budget iPhone, check Apple's spec page for MagSafe before buying a sticker. A ring sticker on its case is the usual workaround.
02Find the coil before you peel
The ring's open middle has to sit over the phone's wireless charging coil. Get it right and wireless charging still works through the gap. Get it wrong and the metal sits over the coil, charging slows or stops, and the ring can get warm.
-
Put the case on the phone
Mark the case, not the bare phone, if the ring is going on the case.
-
Use a flat wireless charger as a guide
Lay the phone on a charging pad and slide it around until charging starts and stays steady. The middle of the pad is now under the coil.
-
Mark the spot
Trace around the pad lightly with a washable marker, or put two strips of masking tape on the case edges in line with the pad's center.
-
Dry-fit the ring
Hold the ring, backing still on, inside your marks. Check it clears the camera bump and any logo you want to keep visible.
No charger to hand? On most phones the coil sits roughly in the middle of the back, slightly above center. That's a fair guess, but the charger method is far more accurate.
03Inside the case or on the outside?
Outside the case
- Strongest hold: nothing between ring and accessory
- Swap cases and the phone stays clean
- Visible, and the edge can catch in pockets
Inside a clear case
- Protected from wear and peeling
- Case thickness weakens the hold
- Can make a snug case tight or bulge
Directly on the bare phone
- Strong hold
- Adhesive is hard to remove from glass backs cleanly
- Most cases won't fit over it
Most ring stickers are thin steel. They don't hold anything on their own; the magnets in your wallet, grip or charger pull toward them. Every millimeter of case between them costs grip, which is why outside wins for anything that carries weight.
04How to install a MagSafe ring sticker, step by step
-
Degrease
Wipe the spot with alcohol and let it dry fully. Skin oil and silicone residue from soft cases are the top reasons rings peel.
-
Peel only the backing
Touch the edges, never the adhesive. If the pack has an alignment film, leave it on until the ring is down.
-
Lower it straight down
Line it up with your marks and set it down in one go. Don't slide it into position; that smears the adhesive.
-
Press hard for 30 seconds
Pressure is what bonds pressure-sensitive adhesive. Press all the way around the ring with your thumb, then go round again.
-
Peel the alignment film
If there is one, lift it slowly at a low angle, keeping a finger on the ring.
-
Let it cure
Most of the bond builds over the first day. Light use is fine straight away, but hold off on heavy wallets, car mounts and yanking a grip off for about 24 hours.
Adhesive grips poorly on soft-touch silicone and heavily textured backs. If yours is one, either fit the ring inside a clear hard case or switch to a smooth hard case. It's also the fix if your magnetic grip isn't sticking.
05Using it, and taking it off later
Snap an accessory on and give it a sideways nudge. A steel ring holds well against a straight pull but lets accessories rotate more than a phone with real alignment magnets. That's normal. For wallets, see how to use a MagSafe wallet; for grips, our phone grip guide.
If wireless charging gets slower or the phone warms more than usual, the ring is probably off-center. Peel it, clean off the residue with alcohol, and use a fresh ring. Reused adhesive rarely holds as well.
To remove one, warm it with a hair dryer on low for 20 to 30 seconds, then lift an edge with a fingernail or plastic card and peel slowly. Never pry at a bare phone's glass back with metal.

Questions people ask
Does a magnetic ring sticker block wireless charging?
Not if it's centered. The open middle of the ring sits over the charging coil and power passes through the gap. If the metal overlaps the coil, charging slows or stops and the ring can heat up, so take time to align it.
Should a MagSafe ring go inside or outside the case?
Outside, for most people. Accessories touch the ring directly, so the hold is strongest. Inside a clear case looks cleaner but the case's thickness weakens the magnets and may make the case tight.
How long does a ring sticker take to stick?
It grabs right away, but most adhesive bonds keep strengthening over about a day. Press it hard for 30 seconds when fitting, then avoid heavy wallets or car mounts until the next day.
Can I reuse a magnetic ring sticker?
Rarely well. Once peeled, the adhesive picks up dust and loses tack. Clean the surface and use a new ring; most come in multi-packs for that reason.
Do ring stickers work on Samsung phones?
Yes. Galaxy phones have no built-in magnets, so a ring on the case lets magnetic wallets, grips and chargers attach. If a magnetic case exists for your model, it's the tidier option.
