01Does Samsung have MagSafe? Here's what it has instead
Samsung phones don't have MagSafe, and no current Galaxy flagship has magnets built in. What Samsung offers is "Qi2 Ready": the phone supports the Qi2 wireless charging standard, and a magnetic case supplies the magnet ring that lines up chargers and accessories.
MagSafe is Apple's name for the magnet ring and charging system in iPhone 12 and later. Qi2 is the open standard from the Wireless Power Consortium that borrowed that magnetic design, so Qi2 chargers and most MagSafe-compatible accessories use the same ring size. Google's Pixel 10 puts those magnets inside the phone. Samsung doesn't.
Samsung has explained why. It points out that 83% of Galaxy owners already use a case, so it put the magnets in official cases and used the space inside the phone for other things, like thinner bodies and batteries. You can agree or not, but it means the case you choose decides whether your Galaxy is magnetic.
There's a practical upside. Because the magnets live in the case, you choose how strong a hold you want and can leave them out entirely with a non-magnetic case if you never use magnetic accessories. The downside: you can't snap a magnetic charger onto a bare Galaxy, and a Galaxy borrowed without its case won't work with your car mount.
02Wireless charging by Galaxy model
Here's what each recent Galaxy supports. Speeds are the maximum Samsung or GSMArena lists, and need a matching charger plus a magnetic case for the Qi2 ones.
| Phone | Magnets built in? | Wireless standard | Max wireless |
|---|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S24, S24+, S24 Ultra | No | Qi | 15W |
| Galaxy S25, S25+, S25 Ultra, S25 Edge | No | Qi2 Ready | 15W |
| Galaxy S26 | No | Qi2 Ready | 15W |
| Galaxy S26+ | No | Qi2.2 | 20W |
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | No | Qi2.2 | 25W |
| Galaxy Z Fold8 | No | Qi2 Ready | 20W |
The S26 Ultra is the standout. At 25W it charges wirelessly as fast as an iPhone 17 Pro on MagSafe, but only with a Qi2.2 charger and a magnetic case. Samsung sells its own 25W Magnet Wireless Charger for exactly this. For the whole picture on wired speeds, see what charger for the Galaxy S26 Ultra and the S25 Ultra.
You don't need magnets to charge wirelessly. Every Galaxy in the table charges on a regular flat Qi pad. Magnets just stop it sliding off and keep the coils lined up, which is what lets Qi2 deliver its full speed.
Older Galaxies like the S24 series are listed with plain Qi wireless charging. They charge on Qi pads, and an adhesive metal ring gives them a magnetic surface for mounts and wallets, but charging speed on a magnetic pad won't improve.
03Three ways to make your Galaxy magnetic
Magnetic case
- Magnet ring sits in the right place for Qi2
- Protects the phone too
- Nothing stuck to your phone
Adhesive metal ring
- Cheap and quick
- Holds wallets and mounts
- Hard to center perfectly, and can weaken charging
Samsung's own Magnet Case
- Made for Qi2 Ready models
- Limited styles
- Same idea as any magnetic case
We'd pick a magnetic case for any S25 or S26. The magnet ring is molded where the charging coil sits, so alignment is automatic, and you skip the fiddly job of centering a sticker. Our magnetic case vs ring sticker comparison covers the trade-offs in more depth.
-
Find your exact model
Open Settings > About phone. The model name tells you which case to buy. The S25 and S26 are not the same size.
-
Choose a magnetic case
Look for "magnetic", "Qi2" or "MagSafe-compatible" in the listing and check your model is named.
-
Snap on accessories
Chargers, wallets, grips and car mounts made for MagSafe-compatible magnets should attach to the case's ring.
-
Use a proper adapter
Magnetic chargers need enough power behind them. A 20W or higher USB-C adapter is a sensible minimum for a 15W pad.
04Will MagSafe accessories work on a Samsung?
Mostly yes, once the phone has a magnet ring in its case. Here's what to expect from each type:
- Wallets and grips: they just need magnets to hold onto, so they work fine on a magnetic case. Bare phone, no luck.
- Car mounts and stands: same. The case ring does the holding.
- Magnetic chargers and power banks: they'll charge through Qi on any Galaxy, and line up properly on a magnetic case. Whether you hit the phone's top speed depends on the charger being Qi2 certified.
- Apple's own MagSafe Charger: it's built for iPhone. Treat any Galaxy charging speed from it as a bonus rather than something to rely on.

Questions people ask
Does the Galaxy S26 have MagSafe?
No. The S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra have no built-in magnets. The S26 is Qi2 Ready, and the S26+ and S26 Ultra support Qi2.2 at 20W and 25W. You need a magnetic case for magnetic chargers and accessories to attach.
What does Qi2 Ready mean on Samsung?
It means the phone supports Qi2 charging but doesn't contain the magnets. Fit a Qi2-compatible magnetic case and the phone behaves like a magnetic phone, with chargers snapping into alignment.
Can I use a MagSafe wallet on a Samsung phone?
Yes, on a magnetic case. On a bare Galaxy or in a regular case, it has nothing to grip and will fall off. An adhesive metal ring is the alternative.
Can a Samsung phone charge on an iPhone MagSafe charger?
A Galaxy can usually charge on Qi-based magnetic chargers, but Apple designs its MagSafe Charger for iPhone. For a Galaxy, a Qi2-certified charger and a magnetic case is the reliable setup.
Why doesn't Samsung put magnets in its phones?
Samsung says 83% of Galaxy users already use a case, so it put the magnets in cases and used the internal space for other improvements, such as thinner designs and batteries.
