Will an iPhone 14 case fit the iPhone 15?

The iPhone 15 was the year Apple dropped Lightning and softened the edges. Small changes on paper, but enough to throw off a case built for the 14.

01Will an iPhone 14 case fit iPhone 15? Here's what changed

No, an iPhone 14 case won't fit an iPhone 15 the way a case should. The phones are the same width and thickness, but the 15 is 0.9 mm taller, has a USB-C port and has rounded edges where the 14 is flat.

Each change is small. Together they mean the case grips the wrong places. A flexible case might stretch on, but the corners carry the most drop protection, and a case that's been stretched over a taller phone holds those corners less firmly.

Spec iPhone 14 iPhone 15 What it means for a case
Height 146.7 mm 147.6 mm Corners don't seat
Width 71.5 mm 71.6 mm Close enough on its own
Depth 7.80 mm 7.80 mm Same
Weight 172 g 171 g Same
Port Lightning USB-C Different bottom opening
Edges Flat Rounded (contoured) Gaps along the sides
Front Notch Dynamic Island Affects screen protectors, not cases
Left side Ring/Silent switch Ring/Silent switch Same control

02Try any combination

Set your phone and the model the case is labeled for. The iPhone 13 and 16 are in here too, since those are the cases most likely to be lying around a house with a few iPhones in it.

Will it fit?Phone on the left, case on the right.

03The edge change people don't notice

The headline change on the iPhone 15 was USB-C, but for cases the edge shape matters just as much. The iPhone 12, 13 and 14 have flat aluminum sides with crisp corners. The iPhone 15 rounds the edge where the frame meets the glass.

A case for a flat-sided phone is molded with straight inner walls. Put a rounded phone in it and the wall only touches at the middle of the frame, leaving thin gaps along the front and back edges. That's where dust gets in, and where the phone can twist inside the case when it lands on a corner.

Quick test with any case you're unsure about

Put the phone in and look along the side from the screen edge. If you can see daylight between the frame and the case lip, or the phone moves when you press one corner, the case wasn't made for it.

USB-C needs a bigger opening

A case for a Lightning iPhone has a port opening sized for the slim Lightning plug. Most USB-C cable heads are wider, and on a taller phone the opening also sits a little off from the port. Thicker braided cables may not seat fully, so the phone charges on and off.

04What you can keep from your iPhone 14

  • MagSafe-compatible accessories. Both phones have built-in magnets, so grips, wallets, stands and magnetic chargers still attach. Our MagSafe iPhone list has every model.
  • Wireless chargers of any kind.
  • Car mounts, since the size difference is tiny.

What you'll need to replace: your case, your screen protector (the Dynamic Island and body shape changed), and your Lightning cables. Keep one Lightning cable if you still have AirPods or other gear that uses it.

If you're switching cables anyway, a USB-C to USB-C cable works with the charger bricks most people already own from laptops and tablets. Our cable collection has short desk lengths and longer ones for the car or bed.

05Picking an iPhone 15 case

Some listings cover several iPhones under one product name. That's fine as long as there's a model option, so select iPhone 15 before you add it to cart. If a listing anywhere offers a single size for both the 14 and 15, skip it.

Need the full picture across generations? Our iPhone case compatibility chart covers every pairing. If you're upgrading again soon, see whether an iPhone 15 case fits the 16. And Find My Phone saves your model so you only see cases that fit.

Questions people ask

Is the iPhone 15 the same size as the iPhone 14?

Almost. The iPhone 15 is 147.6 x 71.6 x 7.80 mm and the iPhone 14 is 146.7 x 71.5 x 7.80 mm. Both have a 6.1-inch screen. The 15 also has rounded edges and a USB-C port.

Will an iPhone 15 case fit an iPhone 14?

Not well. The case is 0.9 mm longer than the 14 and its sides are shaped for rounded edges, so the 14 sits loose. The bottom opening is also cut for USB-C instead of Lightning.

Do iPhone 14 screen protectors fit the iPhone 15?

No. The iPhone 15 has the Dynamic Island instead of a notch, and the body is slightly taller with different edges. Use a protector made for the 15.

Do my iPhone 14 MagSafe accessories work on the iPhone 15?

Yes. Both have built-in magnets, so MagSafe-compatible wallets, grips and chargers attach the same way. Use a case with magnets to keep a strong hold.

Will an iPhone 14 Pro case fit the iPhone 15?

No. Pro cases are cut for a three-lens camera block and a different body. The base iPhone 15 needs a case made for the base iPhone 15.
