Apple has put MagSafe in almost every iPhone since 2020, and "almost" is where the confusion starts. Two budget models skipped it, one budget model brought it back, and the charging speed varies a lot from phone to phone. Here's every model, checked against Apple's own spec and support pages.

Short answer

Every iPhone from the iPhone 12 onward has MagSafe, except the iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation) and the iPhone 16e. That includes all iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 models, the iPhone Air, the new iPhone 17e, and the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max.

The iPhone 11 and anything older have no MagSafe. Newer models also charge faster on it: up to 25W on the iPhone 17 and 18 Pro lines, versus 15W on the iPhone 12 to 15.

Does my iPhone have MagSafe? Model by model

Does the iPhone 18 Pro have MagSafe?

Yes. Apple's spec sheet for the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max lists MagSafe (magnet array, alignment magnet, accessory identification NFC and magnetometer) with up to 25W wireless charging, and Qi2 at up to 25W. Apple quotes 50% in about 30 minutes on a MagSafe Charger with a 35W or larger adapter.

Does the iPhone 17e have MagSafe?

Yes, and it's the headline change from the 16e. Apple added MagSafe to the iPhone 17e with up to 15W wireless charging, twice the 7.5W the iPhone 16e gets on standard Qi. It also supports Qi2.

Does the iPhone 17 have MagSafe?

Yes. The iPhone 17, 17 Pro and 17 Pro Max all charge at up to 25W on MagSafe with a 30W adapter. The iPhone Air has MagSafe too, at up to 20W.

Does the iPhone 16e have MagSafe?

No. The iPhone 16e is the one recent iPhone without MagSafe. It charges wirelessly on standard Qi at up to 7.5W, has no magnet ring, and doesn't support Qi2. A MagSafe case will let magnetic accessories stick to it, but charging stays at 7.5W.

Does the iPhone 16 have MagSafe?

Yes, all four models. With Apple's newer MagSafe Charger and a 30W adapter, the 16 Plus and 16 Pro Max reach 25W and the 16 and 16 Pro reach 22.5W. iOS 26 also unlocked faster Qi2 charging on these models.

Does the iPhone 15 have MagSafe?

Yes. Every iPhone 15 model has MagSafe at up to 15W and supports Qi2 at 15W.

Does the iPhone 14 have MagSafe?

Yes. The iPhone 14, 14 Plus, 14 Pro and 14 Pro Max all have MagSafe at up to 15W, and Qi2 support arrived by software update.

Does the iPhone 13 have MagSafe?

Yes. The iPhone 13, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have MagSafe at up to 15W; the iPhone 13 mini is limited to 12W. You don't need a MagSafe case to use it, but you do need one if you want accessories to hold through a case.

Does the iPhone 12 have MagSafe?

Yes. The iPhone 12 was the first iPhone with MagSafe, launched in October 2020. The 12, 12 Pro and 12 Pro Max charge at up to 15W; the 12 mini at up to 12W.

Does the iPhone 11 have MagSafe?

Does the iPhone SE have MagSafe?

No. Neither the 2020 nor the 2022 iPhone SE has MagSafe. Both charge on standard Qi pads at up to 7.5W.

Which iPhones don't have MagSafe?

The short list: iPhone 16e, iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation), iPhone 11 series, and everything older. The 16e is the one that catches people out, because it launched in 2025 alongside MagSafe-equipped phones and looks modern. How to tell if your iPhone has MagSafe

  1. Check the model name. Open Settings, then General, then About, and look at Model Name. If it's an iPhone 12 or newer and not an SE or 16e, it has MagSafe.
  2. Try a MagSafe charger or accessory. On a MagSafe iPhone it snaps into place with a firm click and, with Apple's charger, shows a charging animation. Without MagSafe, it just sits there.
  3. Don't go by the back glass. There's no visible ring on the outside of the phone. The magnets are under the glass.

Can you add MagSafe to an iPhone that doesn't have it?

You can add the magnets, not the charging speed. A MagSafe case (or a thin magnetic ring you stick inside a regular case) gives grips, wallets, stands and mounts something to hold onto. That part works well. What doesn't change is charging: an iPhone 11, SE or 16e still charges at standard Qi speed, around 7.5W, and the ring may not sit exactly over the phone's coil, so wireless charging can be less reliable than on a real MagSafe phone.

If your phone already has MagSafe, the same logic applies to your case: accessories only hold firmly if the case has its own magnets. Our guide to what a MagSafe case is explains why, and what MagSafe means covers how the system works under the glass.

Does Samsung or Google Pixel have MagSafe?

No Android phone has Apple's MagSafe, because MagSafe is Apple's name for its own system. What Android phones can have is Qi2, the open wireless standard whose magnetic design came from MagSafe. Some newer Google Pixel phones build the Qi2 magnets in, so MagSafe-style accessories snap straight on. Samsung's recent Galaxy S phones support Qi2 charging but leave the magnets out, so you need a magnetic case for anything to stick. Our Qi2 vs MagSafe guide lists which Android phones do what, with wattages.

25W MagSafe needs a 30W brick.

Apple's MagSafe Charger only hits 25W on a USB-C PD adapter rated 15V/2A or higher. HyperGaN's 65W USB-C port clears that with room left for a laptop on the second port.

MagSafe iPhone FAQ

Which iPhones have MagSafe?

All iPhone 12, 13, 14, 15, 16 and 17 models, the iPhone Air, the iPhone 17e, the iPhone 18 Pro and 18 Pro Max, and the iPhone Duo. The exceptions are the iPhone 16e and the iPhone SE (2nd and 3rd generation). The iPhone 11 and older don't have it.

Is the iPhone 13 MagSafe compatible?

Yes. The iPhone 13, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max have MagSafe built in and charge at up to 15W on a MagSafe charger. The iPhone 13 mini has MagSafe at up to 12W.

Does the iPhone 16e have MagSafe?

No. The iPhone 16e has standard Qi wireless charging at up to 7.5W but no MagSafe magnets and no Qi2. Its successor, the iPhone 17e, added MagSafe at up to 15W.

Does the iPhone 11 have MagSafe?

No. MagSafe started with the iPhone 12. The iPhone 11 series charges on standard Qi at up to 7.5W. A MagSafe charger will charge it slowly, but it won't snap on without a magnetic case.

How can I tell if my iPhone has MagSafe?

Do I need a MagSafe case if my iPhone has MagSafe?

Only if you use a case and want magnetic accessories to hold through it. A MagSafe charger will charge through a thin case without magnets, but wallets, grips and mounts need a case with its own magnet ring to stay attached.

Does Samsung have MagSafe?

No. MagSafe is Apple's system. Recent Samsung Galaxy phones support Qi2 wireless charging but don't have built-in magnets, so MagSafe-style accessories need a magnetic case. Some Google Pixel models do build Qi2 magnets in.

Which iPhone has the fastest MagSafe charging?

The iPhone 17, 17 Pro, 17 Pro Max, 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 16 Plus and 16 Pro Max reach 25W with Apple's current MagSafe Charger and a 30W adapter. Apple quotes the 18 Pro at 50% in about 30 minutes with a 35W or larger adapter.
