01Will an iPhone 13 case fit iPhone 14? Mostly, with one catch
An iPhone 13 case will fit the iPhone 14 in a lot of cases, because the two phones share the same height, width, flat edges, Lightning port and button positions. The catch is the camera: the iPhone 14's camera module is a little larger, and a case that hugs the 13's camera tightly may not clear it.
That's very different from most generations, where the body itself changes. Here the outline is identical, so the case grips the corners just as it should. Whether it's a good fit comes down to the opening on the back.
| Spec | iPhone 13 | iPhone 14 | Match? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Height | 146.7 mm | 146.7 mm | Yes |

| Depth | 7.65 mm | 7.80 mm | Close (+0.15 mm) |

02Test your iPhone 13 case in 30 seconds
You don't need to guess. Put the iPhone 14 in the old case and run through these steps before trusting it.
-
Look at the camera opening
Every lens ring and the flash should be fully inside the opening, with a visible gap all the way round. If the case edge touches or overlaps any ring, stop here.
-
Check it from the side
Hold the phone at eye level and look along the back. The case should sit flat against the glass. If it's lifted near the camera, the camera module is propping it up.
-
Lay it on a table
Put the phone face up on a flat surface. It shouldn't rock, and the lenses must not touch the table. A raised lip around the camera is what keeps them off the surface.
-
Press every button
Volume, side button and the Ring/Silent switch should all click cleanly. They're in the same spots on both phones, so this almost always passes.
-
Take a test photo
Shoot a bright scene with the ultra wide lens and with the flash. Dark corners or a hazy flash reflection mean the case is in the way.
A case edge resting on the camera ring grinds grit into the lens glass every time the phone moves. That's how lens covers get scratched. It also stops the phone sitting flat on a wireless charger.
03Which iPhone 13 cases usually work
+Usually fine on an iPhone 14
- Soft TPU or silicone cases with a generous open camera cutout
- Clear cases where the whole camera area is open
- Folio and wallet cases with a wide window for the camera
- Bumper-style frames that leave the back open
–Often a problem
- Hard cases with a tight, contoured ring around each lens
- Cases with a metal camera surround molded to the 13's module
- Rugged cases with a sliding camera cover
- Any case that already fit the 13 tightly at the camera
If your old case is in the first group, it's worth trying. If it's in the second, buy one made for the iPhone 14. Cases sold for the 14 are cut around the larger module, so you don't have to run the test above.
04Compare other pairings
Check your phone against the cases people most often have spare, including the Pro models, which look similar but don't share cases with the base phones.
05What else transfers from the 13 to the 14
Because the bodies match so closely, more carries over here than in any recent upgrade. Your MagSafe-compatible wallets, grips and chargers attach the same way, and your Lightning cables still work. Screen protectors made for the 6.1-inch iPhone 13 are generally listed for the 14 as well. Camera lens protectors are the exception, since the lenses are larger. See which iPhones have MagSafe if you're reusing older gear.
Choose iPhone 14 in the options so the camera opening is sized for its module.
Our iPhone case compatibility chart shows how rare a near-match like this is. If your old case is stuck on, here's how to get a tight case off safely. Save your model in Find My Phone and the store only shows gear that fits.
Questions people ask
Are the iPhone 13 and iPhone 14 the same size?
Nearly. Both are 146.7 mm tall and 71.5 mm wide with a 6.1-inch screen. The iPhone 14 is 7.80 mm thick versus 7.65 mm, and its rear camera module is a little larger.
Will an iPhone 14 case fit an iPhone 13?
Usually, yes. The outline and buttons match, and the 14 case's camera opening is a bit bigger than the 13 needs. The 13 is slightly thinner, so the fit can be a touch looser.
Do iPhone 13 Pro cases fit the iPhone 14?
No. Pro cases are cut for a three-lens camera block, and the openings don't line up with the base iPhone 14's two lenses.
Will an iPhone 13 case damage my iPhone 14 camera?
It can if the case edge rests on a lens ring. Grit gets trapped and scratches the glass. Check that there's a clear gap around every lens and that the phone sits flat on a table.
Do iPhone 13 screen protectors fit the iPhone 14?
Generally yes. Both have a 6.1-inch display with a notch on the same size body. Check that the listing names the iPhone 14.
