01Turn it on: the 10-second version
To turn on fast charging on a Samsung, unplug the phone, go to Settings > Battery > Charging settings and switch on Fast charging. On most Galaxies it's on out of the box, so if you're here, something switched it off or the charger isn't delivering.
-
Disconnect the charger
The charging toggles are greyed out while the phone is plugged in. Unplug first.
-
Go to Settings > Battery
On older One UI versions, start at Settings > Battery and device care > Battery > More battery settings. Searching Settings for "fast charging" finds it on any version.
-
Open Charging settings
Here you'll see the wired and wireless options listed separately.
-
Switch on every fast option your phone shows
Fast charging covers wired. Models that support 25W or more also show Super fast charging. Fast wireless charging is its own switch.
-
Plug in and watch the screen
The charging animation names the mode it's using, such as Fast charging or Super fast charging. If it just says Charging, the phone isn't getting what it needs from the charger or cable.
Toggles all on, but still slow? That's a troubleshooting job. Our Samsung fast charging not working guide runs through the usual causes, from moisture warnings to a charger without PPS.
02How fast your Galaxy can charge
Turning the setting on lets your phone reach its own top speed, not some universal one. Samsung's recent flagships fall into three tiers:
| Galaxy model | Top wired speed | Charger to use |
|---|---|---|
| S26, S25, S25 Edge, Z Fold7 | 25W | 25W+ USB-C PD with PPS |
| S26+, S25+, S25 Ultra | 45W | 45W+ USB-C PD with PPS |
| S26 Ultra | 60W | 60W+ USB-C PD with PPS |
| Older and A-series models | 15W to 45W | Check your model's spec page |
Not sure which model you have? How to tell which Galaxy you have finds it in a few taps. Then match the charger. A 25W phone charges no faster on a 60W brick, so only buy big if you'll share it with a laptop or a bigger Galaxy. Owners of the base S26 can stop at 25W; what charger for the Galaxy S26 has the details.
03The charger and cable each speed needs
This is where most "fast charging is on but nothing happened" problems live. Samsung's Super Fast modes run on USB Power Delivery with PPS, a feature that lets the phone adjust the charger's voltage as it goes. Lots of USB-C chargers sold for iPhones and laptops do plain PD without PPS. A Galaxy plugged into one still charges, just at a slower standard rate.
- For 25W: any USB-C PD charger with PPS rated 25W or more, plus a USB-C to USB-C cable.
- For 45W: a 45W+ PPS charger and a cable rated for 5A (sold as 100W or 240W).
- For 60W on the S26 Ultra: a 60W+ PPS charger and a 5A cable.
- USB-A chargers and cables: top out at the older, slower fast-charging mode. Fine for overnight.
PPS is usually printed on the brick's label as a voltage range (something like 3.3–21V) or listed in the specs. If a listing doesn't mention PPS, assume it doesn't have it. Our wall charger guide covers what else to check.
04Fast wireless charging is a separate switch
Fast wireless charging sits in the same Charging settings screen. With it off, the phone charges slowly on any pad. With it on, it charges at up to the speed your model and pad support: 15W on the S26, more on the S26+ and Ultra with a Qi2 charger and a magnetic case.
Some fast wireless pads have a small cooling fan that spins up in fast mode. If yours keeps you awake, switching fast wireless off at night is a fair trade. For pads that won't charge at all, see Samsung wireless charging not working.
05Should you leave fast charging on?
For most people, yes. The phone controls how fast it charges, slows down as it fills and backs off when it gets warm. The reasons to turn it off are narrow.
+Keep it on
- A few minutes on the cable gives a real top-up
- Galaxy throttles speed automatically as the battery fills
- Battery protection settings handle long-term wear separately
–Turn it off if
- You only charge overnight and want the gentlest, coolest charge
- Your fast wireless pad's fan keeps you awake
- The phone runs hot in a hot car or room
If your goal is a longer-lasting battery, Battery protection in Settings > Battery does more good than switching fast charging off. How to check Samsung battery health explains the modes.
06Confirm it's working
USB-C chargers with room for 45W and 60W Galaxies, and a 100W cable so the cable isn't the weak link. Check each listing for PPS before you buy.
Questions people ask
Where is the fast charging setting on Samsung?
Settings > Battery > Charging settings on current One UI versions. On older phones it's under Battery and device care > Battery > More battery settings. Unplug the phone first, because the switches are greyed out while charging.
Why can't I turn on fast charging on my Samsung?
The phone is almost certainly plugged in. Samsung disables the fast charging switches while a charger is connected. Unplug, change the setting, then reconnect.
Does any USB-C charger fast charge a Samsung?
Any USB-C charger will charge it, but Super Fast Charging needs USB Power Delivery with PPS at 25W or more. Without PPS you'll get a slower standard rate even from a high-wattage charger.
Is Super Fast Charging bad for a Galaxy battery?
Not in normal use. The phone limits speed as the battery fills and when it warms up. Heat and long stretches at 100% cause more wear, which the Battery protection setting helps with.
How do I know if my Samsung is fast charging?
Look at the lock screen or charging animation right after plugging in. It shows Fast charging or Super fast charging when it's working. If it only says Charging, check the charger, cable and settings.
