01Pick your method
To check Samsung battery health, open Settings > Battery > Battery information if your Galaxy has it, or run the battery test in the Samsung Members app if it doesn't. The first gives you numbers; the second gives you a plain verdict.
Battery information in Settings
- Health as a percentage
- Charge cycle count
- Manufacture and first-use dates
Samsung Members test
- Works on almost any Galaxy
- Good, Normal or Weak rating
- No exact percentage
Battery usage screen
- Shows which apps use the most
- Spots a rogue app fast
- Says nothing about battery age
It's worth knowing the difference between a worn battery and a drained one. A worn battery holds less charge than it used to. A drained one is fine but being emptied by something, like an app stuck running or a weak signal. The first two methods check wear; the third catches drain.
02Check it in Settings (newer Galaxies)
-
Open Settings > Battery
On older One UI versions, Battery sits inside Battery and device care.
-
Tap Battery information
It's usually near the bottom of the Battery screen. On some models it's under Settings > About phone > Battery information instead. If you can't find it, type "battery information" into the Settings search bar.
-
Read the health figure
The capacity or health number is a percentage of the original. A year-old phone in the low to mid 90s is normal.
-
Note the cycle count and dates
The cycle count shows how many full charges the battery has done. The manufacture and first-use dates help if you're buying a phone secondhand.
Samsung added this screen with the Galaxy S25, and it has reached other models through One UI updates unevenly, by model and region. If it's missing after you search Settings, use the Samsung Members test below.
03Run the Samsung Members battery test (any Galaxy)
Samsung Members comes preinstalled on most Galaxy phones. If you deleted it, it's free in the Galaxy Store and Google Play.
- Open Samsung Members.
- Tap the Support tab (called Get help in some versions).
- Tap Phone diagnostics and allow the permissions it asks for.
- Tap Battery status. The result appears in a few seconds.
You'll also see the current charge state and whether the battery is charging. Run it with the phone off the charger and at room temperature for the most useful reading.
04What Good, Normal and Weak tell you
| Result | Roughly means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| Good / 90%+ | Little wear | Nothing |
| Normal / 80–89% | Expected wear for its age | Keep using it; turn on battery protection |
| Weak / under 80% | Noticeably reduced capacity | Consider a replacement, especially if you'll keep the phone |
| Swollen or bulging case | Unsafe, whatever the reading | Stop charging it and get it serviced |
A Normal rating with poor battery life usually points to drain rather than wear. Check Settings > Battery for an app using far more than its share, and look at signal: a phone hunting for coverage all day can lose a big chunk of battery even when the battery itself is healthy. iPhone users in the house can follow our iPhone battery health guide.
05Settings that protect a Galaxy battery
Open Settings > Battery > Battery protection on recent One UI versions. You'll see a few modes:
- Basic: charges to 100%, then waits until the level drops a little before topping up again, so it isn't held at full all night.
- Adaptive: learns your sleep pattern and holds charge at around 80% overnight, finishing just before you usually unplug.
- Maximum: stops at a lower cap (80% by default; newer One UI versions let you choose it). Best for phones that sit on a charger most of the day.
Heat is the other half. Charge on a hard surface, take thick cases off if the phone gets warm, and don't leave it on a sunny dashboard. Fast charging itself is fine; Samsung manages the speed. If you want to know how to use it properly, see how to turn on fast charging on Samsung.
06Signs it's time for a new battery
Samsung service centers and authorized repair shops can replace the battery on most Galaxy models. If the repair has to wait, a power bank in your bag covers the shortfall. Galaxy S26 owners can snap on a magnetic bank with a magnetic case.
A cable bank for heavy days, or a magnetic case so snap-on banks stick to your Galaxy.
Questions people ask
How do I check my Samsung battery cycle count?
On Galaxy S25 and later, and other models that have received the feature through One UI updates, go to Settings > Battery > Battery information. Some models show it under Settings > About phone > Battery information. Older Galaxies don't show a cycle count in Settings.
Is Samsung Members battery status accurate?
It's a reliable broad verdict from the phone's own battery data, but it doesn't give an exact percentage. Run it off the charger at room temperature. If it says Weak and battery life feels poor, the battery is worn.
What does Normal mean in Samsung battery status?
Normal means the battery is wearing as expected for its age. It doesn't mean it's like new. If battery life still feels short, check for apps draining it in Settings > Battery.
Do battery health apps from Google Play work on Samsung?
Many only estimate health by watching how you charge over days or weeks, so early readings can be off. Samsung's own Battery information screen or Samsung Members test is a better first check.
Should I use Maximum battery protection?
If your phone spends long hours plugged in, at a desk or in a car, yes. Capping the charge reduces wear over time. If you need every percent by evening, Adaptive is the better compromise.
