01Super Fast, 2.0 and 3.0 side by side
A Samsung Super Fast Charging 2.0 charger is any USB-C Power Delivery charger with PPS that can deliver 45W, used with a 5A cable. The name is Samsung's label for the 45W tier; the charger doesn't need to be made by Samsung.
The naming trips people up because Samsung shows similar words on the screen for different speeds. The text that appears when you plug in tells you which tier you're actually getting.
| On-screen label | Max wired | Charger | Cable |
|---|---|---|---|
| Fast charging | About 15W | Adaptive Fast Charging or basic PD | Any |
| Super fast charging | 25W | USB PD with PPS, 25W+ | USB-C to USB-C, 3A |
| Super fast charging 2.0 | 45W | USB PD with PPS, 45W+ | USB-C to USB-C, 5A |
| Super fast charging 3.0 | 60W | USB PD with PPS, 60W+ | USB-C to USB-C (Samsung says 3A is fine) |
PPS is the common thread. It lets the phone fine-tune the charger's voltage, which is how Samsung keeps heat down at high wattage. If the term is new, what is PPS charging explains it in a few minutes.
02Galaxy models that support 45W
This is where most wasted money happens. The 45W tier is mostly a Plus and Ultra feature, with a couple of mid-range surprises. Foldables and base models stop at 25W.
| Model | Max wired | Tier |
|---|---|---|
| Galaxy S26 Ultra | 60W | Super Fast Charging 3.0 (also does 45W on a 2.0 charger) |
| Galaxy S26+ | 45W | Super Fast Charging 2.0 |
| Galaxy S26 | 25W | Super Fast Charging |
| Galaxy S25 Ultra, S25+ | 45W | Super Fast Charging 2.0 |
| Galaxy S25, S25 Edge | 25W | Super Fast Charging |
| Galaxy S24 Ultra, S24+ | 45W | Super Fast Charging 2.0 |
| Galaxy A56, A36 | 45W | Super Fast Charging 2.0 |
| Galaxy Z Fold7, Z Flip7 | 25W | Super Fast Charging |
A base S26 or a Z Fold7 draws 25W at most. A 45W charger is still safe and useful if you share it with a laptop or a Plus-model phone, but it won't charge the 25W phone any faster. The model pages go deeper: Galaxy S26 charger and S26 Ultra charger.
03Why the 5A cable matters at 45W
Samsung's 45W mode runs at roughly 10V and 4.5A. Ordinary USB-C cables are limited to 3A, and the charger will refuse to push past that unless the cable's e-marker chip says it can handle 5A. Use a 3A cable, which is what many phones have shipped with, and a 45W Galaxy settles at the 25W tier.
- Look for 100W or 240W on the listing. Those ratings mean 5A.
- USB-C on both ends. USB-A to USB-C cables can't carry PD at all.
- Shorter is fine. Length matters less than the rating. See does cable length affect charging speed.
Both are rated well above 45W, so the cable is never what holds your Galaxy back.
04Is 45W worth it over 25W?
25W PPS charger
- Full speed on base S, Fold and Flip models
- Smaller and usually cheaper
- Runs a little cooler
45W+ PPS charger
- Fastest top-up in the first 20 to 30 minutes
- Needs a 5A cable to reach 45W
- Doubles as a tablet or small-laptop charger
The gain from 45W is real but front-loaded. Charging starts fast and tapers as the battery fills, and past roughly 70 to 80% both chargers end up in the same slow stretch. If you mostly charge overnight, you'll never notice the difference. If you plug in for 20 minutes before heading out, you will. Our 25W vs 45W Samsung charger comparison has the side-by-side.
Worried 45W is harsh on the battery? The phone only pulls full power while the battery is low and cool, and it drops to a lower tier by itself when it warms up. If you'd rather keep things gentle overnight, you can switch fast charging off in Settings > Battery > Charging settings and turn it back on for daytime top-ups. More in is fast charging bad for your battery.

06Wireless speeds on recent Galaxys
Wireless is a separate system with its own ceiling. Samsung calls its 15W wireless mode Fast Wireless Charging 2.0, and most recent Galaxys top out there. The S26 series moved the top end up: the S26+ reaches 20W and the S26 Ultra 25W, though Samsung still left magnets out, so the faster rates rely on a Qi2 charger and a magnetic case holding the coils in line.
For bedside charging, 15W is plenty. If wireless charging stops or stalls, see Samsung wireless charging not working, and does Samsung have MagSafe explains how a magnetic case changes things.
Questions people ask
Do I need a Samsung charger for Super Fast Charging 2.0?
No. Any USB-C PD charger with PPS that can supply 45W on one port works, as long as you use a 5A USB-C to USB-C cable. Samsung's own 45W adapter is one option, not the only one.
Can I use a 45W charger on a phone that only supports 25W?
Yes, it's safe. The phone asks for what it can handle, so a 25W Galaxy charges at 25W on a 45W charger. You just won't gain any speed.
Why does my phone say Super fast charging instead of 2.0?
Usually the cable. Samsung's 45W mode needs a 5A cable, and many bundled and older cables are 3A. Also check that the charger has PPS at 45W, that you're on a 45W model, and that the phone isn't warm.
Does the Galaxy S26 support 45W charging?
The base Galaxy S26 tops out at 25W. The S26+ supports 45W, and the S26 Ultra goes to 60W with Super Fast Charging 3.0.
Is Super Fast Charging 2.0 bad for the battery?
Not in any way most people will notice. The phone limits speed as the battery fills and as it warms, and PPS keeps heat lower than older fast charging did. Heat is the bigger factor, so charge on a hard surface and avoid gaming while plugged in.
