01Will an iPhone 17 Pro case fit the iPhone 18 Pro?
Most iPhone 17 Pro cases fit the iPhone 18 Pro, because Apple kept the body exactly the same size: 150.0 mm tall, 71.9 mm wide and 8.75 mm deep. The only physical change that matters to a case is the camera plateau, which sits slightly taller on the 18 Pro.
Apple's official answer is still no. It doesn't list iPhone 17 Pro cases as compatible with the iPhone 18 Pro. Reports put the plateau difference anywhere from 0.1 mm to about 0.5 mm. John Gruber tried cases in both directions and found 17 Pro cases fit the 18 Pro perfectly, and the reverse too. Macworld, on the other hand, warned that tight, form-fitting and rugged cases are the ones most likely to leave the lenses less protected.

02Check your pair
Choose the iPhone you own and the model the case was made for. Pro and Pro Max never swap, and the iPhone 17 and iPhone Air are different shapes entirely.
Not sure which model you have? Go to Settings > General > About and check Model Name.
03Which 17 Pro cases are most likely to cause problems
The body fit isn't the worry here. The camera surround is. Here's how the common case types tend to behave:
- Slim TPU, silicone and leather cases: the best bet. They flex, and their camera cutouts usually leave a little room around the plateau.
- Hard shells and thin polycarbonate: usually fine, but look closely at whether the lip around the camera still rises above the lenses.
- Rugged cases with built-in camera covers or sliders: the most likely to sit wrong, since they're cut tightly around the plateau.
- Cases with Camera Control cutouts or covers: both phones have Camera Control, and press reports haven't flagged any change to it. Our Camera Control case guide explains cutout versus sapphire-covered designs.
Pass all five and keep using it. Fail the first or third and the camera is taking knocks it shouldn't, which is the expensive part of a Pro to repair.
04Chargers and MagSafe accessories carry over
Your MagSafe-compatible accessories don't need replacing. Apple lists both phones at up to 25W with its MagSafe Charger and up to 25W on Qi2 chargers. Wallets, grips and stands attach the same way.
Wired charging is where the 18 Pro moved on. Apple quotes up to 50% in around 15 minutes with a 60W-capable adapter or higher, compared with up to 50% in 20 minutes on a 40W adapter for the 17 Pro. If you want that speed, check your brick. See what charger the iPhone 18 Pro needs.
Cases and a grip from our iPhone 18 Pro range. Check your exact model is listed on the product.
Pro Max owners should head to iPhone 18 Pro Max instead. Set your model once in Find My Phone and every product page will tell you whether it fits. Our iPhone case compatibility chart covers older generations.
Questions people ask
Are iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro the same size?
Yes. Apple lists both at 150.0 × 71.9 × 8.75 mm. The Pro Max models also match at 163.4 × 78.0 × 8.75 mm. The camera plateau is slightly taller on the 18 Pro models.
Does Apple say iPhone 17 Pro cases fit the iPhone 18 Pro?
No. Apple doesn't list them as compatible, and the slightly taller camera plateau is the likely reason. Many owners and reviewers report their 17 Pro cases fit fine, but tight rugged cases are the most likely exception.
Will an iPhone 17 Pro Max case fit the iPhone 18 Pro Max?
Usually. The bodies are identical, and the only change is the camera plateau height. Check that the case's camera lip still sits above the lenses.
Will my iPhone 17 Pro screen protector fit the iPhone 18 Pro?
The outer dimensions match, but screen protectors follow the display and front sensor cutout, not the frame. Buy one listed for the iPhone 18 Pro to be safe.
Do MagSafe accessories from my iPhone 17 Pro work on the 18 Pro?
Yes. Both phones support MagSafe and Qi2 charging at up to 25W, and magnetic wallets, grips and mounts attach the same way.
