Which Galaxy S25 charger do you need? 25W is the ceiling

The base Galaxy S25 can't use more than 25W, so a giant charger buys you nothing for this phone. What you do need is the right kind of 25W.

01What charger the Galaxy S25 actually uses

The best Galaxy S25 charger is a 25W USB-C PD charger with PPS. That's the phone's wired limit, and Samsung calls it Super Fast Charging. The S25+ and S25 Ultra go to 45W, but the base S25 does not.

Its 4,000 mAh battery is the smallest in the lineup, which is why the 25W limit doesn't feel slow in practice. Wireless charging runs at up to 15W, and Wireless PowerShare can send 4.5W out of the phone's back to top up earbuds or a watch.

02PPS matters more than watts

Plenty of people buy a 65W charger, plug in their S25 and see plain "Fast charging" instead of "Super fast charging". The reason is almost always missing PPS support. Samsung's 25W mode relies on it. A charger without PPS falls back to standard USB PD, which Galaxy phones treat as regular fast charging rather than Super Fast Charging.

So when you shop, read the spec line, not the headline wattage. Look for "PPS" or "PD 3.0 PPS" next to the USB-C port. Our Super Fast Charging explainer walks through the labels, and 25W vs 45W Samsung chargers covers whether to buy up for a future phone.

Old USB-A charger in a drawer?

It'll charge the S25, but slowly. USB-A chargers can't do USB PD or PPS. Keep it for a nightstand where speed doesn't matter.

03Getting Super Fast Charging working

  1. Use USB-C on both ends

A USB-C to USB-C cable is required for PD and PPS. The cable from the S25 box is fine for 25W.

  2. Confirm the setting is on

Go to Settings > Battery > Charging settings and check that fast charging is enabled. It can get switched off by accident.

  3. Plug in and read the lock screen

You should see "Super fast charging" under the battery percentage. If it says "Fast charging", the charger likely lacks PPS. If it says "Charging" or "Charging slowly", suspect the cable.

  4. Turn the screen off

Heavy use while charging adds heat, and the phone throttles speed when it's warm. A lit screen and a game on the go will undo a fast charger.

04Wireless charging and Qi2 Ready

The S25 charges wirelessly at up to 15W. Samsung markets the series as Qi2 Ready, which means the phone talks to Qi2 chargers but has no magnets built in. Put it in a magnetic case and it snaps onto Qi2 and MagSafe-compatible chargers like an iPhone does.

+Worth adding magnets if…

  • You want a magnetic car mount that won't drop the phone
  • You like the idea of a snap-on power bank or wallet
  • Your current pad keeps missing the coil overnight

–Skip it if…

  • You only charge by cable
  • You already have a stand that holds the phone in place
  • You use a wallet folio case you love

05The setup we'd buy

For the S25 alone, any genuine 25W PPS charger is enough. If you also charge a tablet, laptop or a partner's phone from the same outlet, a multi-port GaN brick is better value than three separate plugs. Just remember the phone still tops out at 25W. Our wall charger guide explains what to look for.

06Charging the S25 away from the wall

The same PPS rule follows you into the car and onto a power bank. A car charger or power bank with a USB-C PD port will always charge the S25, but only ones that list PPS will show "Super fast charging". If the listing doesn't say, assume it won't, and don't worry too much: on a 30-minute drive the difference between regular fast charging and 25W is modest.

  • Car: use the USB-C port, not the USB-A one, and a short USB-C to USB-C cable. A car charging setup with a magnetic mount also keeps the phone in view for maps.
  • Power bank: 10,000 mAh refills a 4,000 mAh S25 roughly twice by cable. Our power bank calculator runs the numbers for your bank.
  • Laptop USB-C port: works, but most laptop ports only supply a few watts to phones. Fine for a slow top-up at your desk.

One more thing that catches people out: heat. If the S25 is sitting on a sunny dashboard or under a pillow, it throttles charging no matter what charger you use. Keep it ventilated and charging stays quick.

Questions people ask

Does the Galaxy S25 support 45W charging?

No. The base Galaxy S25 tops out at 25W. A 45W charger is safe to use and the phone simply draws 25W. Only the S25+ and S25 Ultra reach 45W.

Does the Galaxy S25 come with a charger?

No. The box has a USB-C to USB-C cable but no wall adapter. Any USB-C charger works, but you need one with USB PD and PPS for 25W Super Fast Charging.

Can I use an iPhone charger on a Galaxy S25?

Yes, if it's a USB-C charger. Apple's 20W adapter uses USB PD without PPS, so it charges the S25 at standard speed rather than Super Fast Charging. It's safe, just slower.

Does the Galaxy S25 work with MagSafe chargers?

It charges on them, but the magnets won't grip a bare S25 because it has none. Add a magnetic case and it snaps on properly. Wireless speed is capped at 15W either way.

Why does my S25 say Fast charging instead of Super fast charging?

Usually the charger lacks PPS, or you're using a USB-A cable. Switch to a 25W PPS charger with a USB-C to USB-C cable, and check that fast charging is on under Settings > Battery > Charging settings.
