01What is your Pixel doing?
Pixel wireless charging not working usually comes down to alignment, a case in the way, a charging setting, or heat. The symptom tells you which, so start there rather than buying a new pad.
Alignment or the case
The coils aren't lining up. Take the case off, center the phone with the coil mid-back, and try again. If that works, switch to a slimmer or magnetic case.
See magnetic casesHeat is pausing it
Pixels slow or stop charging when the battery is warm. Cool it down off the pad, then charge on a hard surface out of the sun.
Overheating guideCharging optimization is on
Adaptive charging or Limit to 80% is holding the level on purpose. Check Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimization.
Why phones stop at 80%Weak pad or adapter
Basic Qi pads and small adapters charge Pixels slowly. A Qi2 charger with a proper USB-C adapter is the upgrade.

-
Center the coil, not the phone
The charging coil sits roughly in the middle of the back, below the camera bar. On a flat pad, slide the phone up or down a little until it starts. A stand or a magnetic charger takes the guesswork away.
-
Strip the back
Remove the case, cards, ring grips and any metal plate. Test bare. If it charges, the case was the problem.
-
Unplug USB
A Pixel ignores the pad while a USB-C cable is connected, including a car cable for Android Auto.
-
Turn off Battery Share
If Battery Share (reverse wireless charging) is on, the phone may try to give power instead of taking it. Switch it off in Quick Settings or under Settings > Battery.
-
Check Charging optimization
Open Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimization. Adaptive charging holds at 80% overnight and finishes before your usual wake time. Limit to 80% caps it every time. Turn it off if you need a full charge now.
-
Cool it and restart
Give a warm Pixel 10 to 15 minutes off the pad, then restart it and check Settings > System > Software updates.
-
Swap pad and phone
Try your Pixel on another Qi pad, and another phone on your pad. Whichever fails twice is the culprit.
03Magnets or not: why your Pixel model matters
Google added built-in magnets, which it calls Pixelsnap, with the Pixel 10 series. Older Pixels have no magnets, so a magnetic charger won't hold them in place and they slide off the coil. That single change explains a lot of "my new charger doesn't work" complaints.
| Pixel | Built-in magnets | Max wireless (official) | Best charger type |
|---|---|---|---|
| Pixel 11 Pro Fold | Yes (Pixelsnap) | Up to 25W, Qi2.2 | Qi2 25W magnetic |
| Pixel 10 | Yes (Pixelsnap) | 15W, Qi2 | Qi2 magnetic |
| Pixel 10 Pro Fold | Yes | 15W, Qi2 | Qi2 magnetic |
| Pixel 9 Pro Fold | No | 7.5W | Flat Qi pad or stand |
| Pixel 9 and earlier | No | Varies by model | Stand, or magnetic case + magnetic charger |
For a Pixel 9 or earlier, a stand is often the easiest fix because it holds the coil height steady. Or add magnets with a magnetic case and use any magnetic charger. For the full Pixelsnap story see does the Pixel 10 have MagSafe.
A plain case on a Pixel 10 weakens the magnets' grip, and a thick one can stop a magnetic charger from holding at all. Choose a case made to pass the magnets through.
04Pad, adapter and power: the boring stuff that matters
A wireless pad needs more power going in than it sends to the phone. Plug it into the adapter it came with, or a USB-C adapter at least as powerful as its manual asks for. A spare USB-A cube or a laptop port often isn't enough, and the pad either cycles on and off or charges at a trickle.
- Use the pad's own cable if it came with one. Swap it first if the light flickers.
- Keep the pad flat and away from keys, coins and metal desks.
- If the pad light blinks, read our blinking charger guide.
- If you hear a whine from the pad, see charger making a buzzing noise.
A stand keeps older Pixels lined up; a magnetic charger suits Pixelsnap models and Pixels in a magnetic case.
05When it's the phone
If your Pixel charges by cable but won't charge on any wireless pad, even bare, cool and restarted, the coil or its connection may be damaged. Cracked back glass is a common cause after a drop. Stop using wireless until it's repaired, and contact Google support or an authorized repair shop.
If it won't charge by cable either, start with the port. Lint packs into USB-C ports over time; our USB-C port cleaning guide shows how to clear it safely.
Questions people ask
Why won't my Pixel charge on a wireless charger?
It's usually alignment or the case. Remove the case, center the phone so the coil (middle of the back) is over the pad, and unplug any USB cable. If it still won't start, cool it down, restart, and try a different pad.
Does the Pixel 10 work with MagSafe chargers?
Yes, it snaps onto magnetic chargers thanks to Pixelsnap magnets, and charges at up to 15W on Qi2 chargers. Apple's own MagSafe charger may charge it more slowly than a Qi2 charger.
Why does my Pixel stop wireless charging at 80%?
Charging optimization is probably on. Adaptive charging holds at 80% overnight, and Limit to 80% caps it every time. Find both under Settings > Battery > Battery health > Charging optimization.
Can a case stop a Pixel from charging wirelessly?
Yes. Thick rugged cases, cases with metal plates and wallet cases full of cards can block the coil. Slim cases are normally fine, and magnetic cases help magnetic chargers stay centered.
Why does my Pixel keep connecting and disconnecting on the charger?
It's sitting at the edge of the coil, or it's warming up and pausing. Re-center it, remove a thick case, and keep it off soft surfaces. A stand or magnetic charger holds it in place.
