01What makes the best case for iPhone Air
The best case for iPhone Air adds as little thickness as possible while covering the two things that get damaged: the camera plateau and the back glass. A thin magnetic case does both and keeps MagSafe working properly. Anything thicker should earn its bulk with real drop protection.
The Air is 5.64 mm thick and weighs 165 g. Almost all of the hardware lives in the plateau, the raised bar across the top of the back that Apple says houses the cameras, speaker and chips. That plateau is the highest point on the back, so it's what hits the table when you set the phone down and what takes the knock in a fall.

02Will the iPhone Air bend without a case?
It's the first question people ask about a phone this thin. Apple says the Air exceeds its bend strength requirements and calls it more durable than any previous iPhone, thanks to the titanium frame and Ceramic Shield on both sides. A case isn't what stops a phone bending; the frame is.
Where a case does help is scuffs on that mirror-polished titanium edge, cracks from corner drops, and the plateau grinding against rough surfaces. That's why a slim case is enough for most people. Sitting on a phone in your back pocket is a bad idea with any phone, cased or not.
The Air has a Camera Control button on the side. Pick a case with a cutout or a conductive cover over it, or you'll lose the light-press controls. Our Camera Control case guide explains the difference.
03Find your iPhone Air case
Ultra-thin magnetic shell
A hard thin case with built-in magnets. Barely changes the feel, protects against scratches, and works with every MagSafe-compatible accessory.
See thin Air casesFrosted or clear magnetic case
Lets the titanium color show through while covering the back and plateau. Frosted hides fingerprints better than glossy clear.
See clear Air casesSoft-touch or silicone case
A grippier surface is the cheapest drop insurance there is. Still slim, and less likely to slide off a car seat or couch arm.

More material at the corners and a taller lip around the plateau. Adds bulk, but if drops are routine, it's the right trade.

Many Air cases are sold alongside iPhone 17 cases on the same listing. The two phones are different sizes, so choose the iPhone Air option when you check out. For a slim look across models, see our thinnest phone cases.

05Cases and the MagSafe Battery
Apple sells a MagSafe Battery for the Air and quotes up to 40 hours of video playback with it attached, versus up to 27 hours without. If you plan to use it, or any magnetic power bank, a magnetic case is close to essential. Non-magnetic cases add distance and nothing to hold onto, so the pack can slide off and charge less efficiently.
The same goes for magnetic car mounts and wallets. For charging speeds and adapters, see what charger the iPhone Air needs.
Extra edge and camera coverage for people who drop their phone more than they'd like.

Questions people ask
Do you need a case for the iPhone Air?
You don't need one to stop it bending; Apple says the titanium frame exceeds its bend strength requirements. A thin case is still worth it to protect the polished edges, the back glass and the camera plateau from drops and scuffs.
Do iPhone 17 cases fit the iPhone Air?
No. The Air is a different size and has a full-width plateau instead of the 17's camera layout. Many listings sell both, so pick the iPhone Air option specifically.
Does a case make the iPhone Air thick?
A thin hard shell adds very little. Rugged and wallet cases can nearly double the feel of the thickness, which defeats the point of the Air for many people.
Will Apple's MagSafe Battery work through a case?
Yes, through a MagSafe-compatible case with built-in magnets. A thick or non-magnetic case can stop it holding firmly and slow charging.
What case protects the iPhone Air camera best?
One with a raised lip around the plateau, or a sliding camera cover. The plateau is the highest point on the back, so it's the part that needs the most clearance.
